New Year Self-Care

It is now almost mid January, and for many of us our New Year’s resolutions have fallen by the wayside. For myself, this year, I have decided not to resolve to do anything in particular but instead to be kinder to myself, non judgemental and accepting of how I am right now.

I am attempting to incorporate the tools that I have learned over the last few years – gently – and without expectation beyond this moment, this day.

Instead of dieting I am looking at the Ayurvedic way of eating for your body type. Previously I had attended an Ayurvedic practitioner and had my body type determined. After digging out the list I am relearning which foods are good for my body and am choosing to eat what is best for me. I find there is lots to choose from and it is very enjoyable discovering new foods and recipes. This past week I have cooked myself wonderful, healthy nourishing and fulfilling meals which are correct for my body type and I can feel the benefits already. Create a happy atmosphere in your body and mind

I am learning that as well as feeding your body correctly, you also need to create a happy and loving atmosphere within your mind by choosing to think positively. I have been trying out affirmations by Louise L. Hay and I listen to her CD in the car on my way to work. It is having a profound effect on how I view life.

I have also reconnected with my creative side and have taken up the guitar. Recently I have tried writing as a way to relieve stress. I am challenging my body in new ways and have taken up spin classes which are invigorating and challenging.
